Do you have any hobbies? What if you could make money from your hobbies? Or what if you could form a community with people who have hobbies like you? Actually, it exists. It is the hobby-sharing platform. The hobby-sharing platform is a hobby and talent-sharing community created by the influence of a shared economy*. You can commercialize your hobbies and form communities with people who have the same hobbies like you. The hobby-sharing platform is becoming popular recently and many hobby-sharing platforms are growing rapidly. The SM Herald is going to introduce the most popular hobby-sharing platforms, ‘솜씨당’ and ‘Frip.’
The SM Herald asked 49 students Sangmyung University what hobbies they were interested in. As a result, most of the survey respondents said photography (51%), and cooking (44.9%). These top responses (photography, cooking) show many students prefer learning hobbies closely connected with daily life.
Then, how are students enjoying their hobbies? Students can create a club for the activities they want, but we wondered if there would be any way to learn hobbies more professionally and share knowledge. While collecting information, we got to know the hobby-sharing platforms. Users can choose groups where people get together to enjoy, learn, and share the same hobby. And also, the users can communicate with other people through the platforms before meeting.
The SM Herald asked the same students if they had heard of or used the hobby-sharing platforms. There are many hobby-sharing platforms providing opportunities to learn various hobbies of high quality. However, most of the respondents (65.7%) answered that they did not know about the existence of any platform and had no experience using it. Therefore, we are going to introduce “Frip” and “솜씨당 (Somssidang)” to the students, which are relatively less known.
Special one day classes, “솜씨당”
“솜씨당” is a platform which provides space for users to share their hobbies.“솜씨당” focuses on creating a place where people with the same interests in our area, neighborhood, or field gather to share their experiences and share experiences with others. For this reason, “솜씨당” provides hobby classes and the workshop searching service. The difference between other hobby-sharing platforms is that “솜씨당” focuses on local based offline classes. It is analyzed that there are a lot of classes that go to the workshop such as baking, handicrafts, and flowers and learn about 80% of the one-day classes that can be enjoyed casually.
“솜씨당” has 8 categories which include ‘flowers’, ‘cooking’, ‘handicrafts’, ‘art’, ‘life style’, ‘music’, ‘kids’ and ‘home class.’ The following chart shows details about each class.

How to apply
1) Download the “솜씨당” mobile application.
2) Make an account and log in. You can log in by ‘Kakao Talk’, too. “솜씨당” gives 100 points for new members.
3) Select the class. You can easily choose classes by tapping in ‘detail conditions.’
4) Select the class reservation date and the number of applicants. After selecting the date and the number of applicants, press the apply button.
5) Type in the applicant’s information and select a payment method to pay.
6) Make payment.
In addition, you can exchange messages with your teacher and share the class with others.
“Frip” is an application where an individual host can share their own leisure products. The hosts activating in Frip are about 10,000, and the number of users exceeded 740,000 as of August this year. Users can enjoy 6,000 kinds of hobbies in Frip. Especially, it is really suitable for active people because Frip has lots of activity programs.
Students are able to listen to practical lectures through learning programs.
The filtering function is well prepared so users can find suitable hobbies by searching on the basis of location, price, etc.
The survey shows that lots of students are interested in hobbies in various fields. The hobby-sharing platforms such as "솜씨당"(Somssidang) and Frip will provide new opportunities to the students. Through the platforms, students who are exhausted to study could be able to find some hobbies that make them feel refreshed. And also, students who are worried about getting a job could prepare for jobs by sharing talents in the platforms.
