Graduation Gown Design Contest

Since last November, Sangmyung University's graduation gown design contest has been held. The 46th Student Council “1st” has raised an agenda of creating a new and unrequited rental of graduation gowns and hats with unique designs of Sangmyung University, for the purpose of promoting a sense of belonging to current students and for all graduates to leave their last happy memories on campus. After discussions with the SMU academic management team, Sangmyung University held our own graduation gown design contest.
Design Contest Implementation Information
For the purposes above, the contest was held from November 27 to December 10, 2023, under the theme of creating Sangmyung University's own graduation gown design.The contest was held only for Sangmyung University students, and the winners were awarded a certificate in the name of the president and prize money. The design of the grand prize works was used as the official graduation gown design of Sangmyung University. After recruiting design works, online voting and screening were conducted from December 18 to 21, and the results were announced on January 1st.
Graduation Gown Contest Final Result
Based on the results of online votes and expert reviews, fashion design major Kim Min-young's design, which earned 1,587 online votes and 90.7 expert points, was finally chosen for the official graduation gown design of Sangmyung University. Jang Jin-woo and Lee Chae-yoon, both fashion design majors, came in second and third. The picture below shows the graduation gown design of the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places in turn.

Graduation Gown Utilization Schedule
The final design will be confirmed through consultation between the design students, professors of related majors, and manufacturers. Officials will proceed with the sample production and modification consultation based on the confirmed design. After the design rework, a total of 2,200 new graduation gowns, including Seoul and Cheonan Campus, will be produced and used from the August 2024 graduation ceremony.
Fortunately, all graduates will be able to leave good new memories with their newly designed SMU graduation gown, from the graduation ceremony in August 2024. Thank you to everyone who has shown interest in the school contest and worked hard on redesigning it. I hope everyone will have a lot of good memories at Sangmyung University before graduation in 2024 this year.
